title pic 5 Ways to Relax in Your Own Home

Posted by Mrs Zeee on 04/06/2009

Life is full of countless stresses: shrinking funds, climbing expenses, crying children, demanding jobs — so much that requires exhaustive and seemingly unending efforts.

Here is the good news: amidst all of this,  you CAN find solace, if only for a few moments, if only in your very own living room.

Try these 5 tricks:

1. Always be prepared.  Even the best planners can’t plan everything.  Be ready at a moment’s notice to catch a few z’s, take a hot bath or spend some quiet time with your thoughts. You never know when the boss will let you out early or the kids will have an impromptu play date — take advantage!

2. Indulge in a guilty pleasure. Like trashy celeb magazines? How about reality TV shows or stupid-funny movies? Make some time in your week to engage in activities that require low brain power.

3.  Don’t underestimate the importance of relaxing “things.”  Surround yourself with items that promote calm and peace — a scented candle, a favorite photo, a comfy pillow, soft music — use these to help you reflect and re-center.  The more frequently you employ them, the quicker the road to relaxation.

4. Find a yourself a haven. Designate an area of your home as sacrosanct and dedicated to repose.  Maybe a lounger chair, a bench in the garden or even a corner of your family room? Any spot can be an escape as long as it is where you can achieve your peaceful time.

5. Make it a priority. Too often we  find ways to use our free moments for tasks that are not immediately pertinent. Your mental health is of utmost importance — to you, to your family and to those who interact with you daily.  Make it so that nothing stands in the way of your reprieve and all will benefit in the long run!
