Ba-Da-BING!

This is HUGE. This is Tony-Soprano-in-a-tricked-out-Escalade HUGE.
Microsoft released BING today and it’s headed straight for the throat of our beloved Google machine.
What is BING, you say? It’s is the second coming of search, I say. (well, I wouldn’t go that far but it is pretty darn sweet).
I played around on the Beta version a bit today and here are some of the features that have my heart a-flutter:
-BING.com landing page features a breathtaking photo that happens to be interactive when you scroll over parts of it. The photo changes every day and you can see past photos by installing Silverlight.
-Image search automatically displays related search terms to help you find the right image and goes even further by allowing you to narrow down image attributes, ie, size, color, style, etc…
-You can perform a universal travel search directly from the landing page and get competitive pricing on flights and hotels instantly.
and the best part…
-CASHBACK shopping incentives. Yes, you read that correctly. Search for a product on BING and if you buy it from that search query, you will receive cash back from your purchase. Considering the amount of online shopping that I have done as of late, this is a very attractive little carrot…
So where does this leave the Google?
My guess is that the Google bot isn’t exactly shaking in it’s cyber-boots — after all, 60% is a tough nut to crack.
BING is looking pretty sharp on the onset… but winning significant share from Don Google?

That’s a lot of great features. I think it will definitely capture a market, but…. Google will probably retaliate by coming up with something better.
In the end, it’s the users (you and me) that will win with better features.

I played with Bing, too, and you are right – the bells and whistles are impressive.
How-evah – it IS a Microsoft product, so I can’t shake the feeling that if I access Bing through Explorer, my credit card number will be delivered directly to an Estonian hacker….
