title pic Swine Flu Parties…Seriously?

Posted by Mrs Zeee on 06/16/2009

So, my poor DH is laid up in bed for 2 days now with what we believe to be a pretty nasty stomach flu.

Of course, like the paranoid person I am, I immediately assume that he has H1N1 and begin scouring the web for symptoms, treatments, etc…

Then, I came across this page on the CDC website where they discuss the “Swine Flu Party.” No, not a typo and yes, this refers to an intentional gathering. Evidently, people are planning “parties” to gather around infected persons with the goal of catching a mild version of the flu to stave off a more serious strain later down the road…

I guess it’s kind of like when my mom made me play with every neighborhood kid who had chicken pox so that I would get them over with at an early age… I guess.

But then again, what if you are the poor schmuck who is actually sick with the flu?

Do you really want a bunch of immuno-extremists worshipping at your alter?

Lunatics with cotton swabs, leaning into your personal space, hoping that you’ll cough at any moment… fighting over droplets of your PND?

(Ok, I know that’s not how it happens, but it’s quite a visual, no?)

Is there ever a good time to get the flu? Whose to say that catching it now would be better than later, anyway?

What’s next morons, shacking-up at your local barnyard?

If you ask me, these people are control freaks…
