title pic Situational Irony, Defined

Posted by Mrs Zeee on 09/12/2009

Situational irony defined in 10 of life’s most unexpectedly expected guarantees…

1) On the very same day you bring in pictures and other accoutrement to spruce up your desk at work, you will lose your job.

2) On the very same day that you have a long-awaited appointment at the hair salon, you will wake up to the very best hair day of your life.

3) On the very same day that you finally decide to surprise your husband with a fantastic home cooked dinner, your husband finally decides to surprise you by bringing home dinner.

4) On the very same day that you opt to wear your winter-white silk designer blouse that has been sitting in your closet for what seems like ages, your child’s breakfast will disagree with him or her, all over your well-meaning shoulder.

5) On the very same day that you forgo the nursing bra pads for a quick run to the grocery store for milk, you will run into your ex, and promptly spring a leak.

6) On the very same day that you have a special occasion of someone very close to you that you absolutely must attend, you will have a special occasion of someone else who is very close to you that you absolutely must attend.

7) On the very same day that you begin your diet, you will discover that Ben and Jerry’s is giving away free ice cream cones.

8) On the very same day that you switch purses and resolve not to transfer the dental floss into your new bag, you will some how, some way, eat corn on the cob and spend the rest of the day miserably uncomfortable.

9) On the very same day that you splurge on a manicure, your mother will drop off 2Lbs of shrimp that need to be cleaned and peeled for dinner. (This might only apply to Italians)

10) On the very same day that you finally get to the post office to mail that package that has been sitting on your dining room table for 3 weeks, you return home to find this on your door:

title pic STS: Chocolate Covered Creations

Posted by Mrs Zeee on 09/11/2009

This week’s STS topic is “6 things you think would be yummy covered in chocolate…”

And the one question I have is, how can I keep it to only 6?

Doesn’t MomDot know that chocolate improves all things…

Nevertheless, I’ll play along and try to keep it to a tame 6.

Sooo, wouldn’t it be yummy to try chocolate-covered:

1) McDonald’s French Fries

2) Corn Pops Cereal

3) Pickles (all the preggos are salivating now)

4) Kettle Chips

5) Funnel Cake

6) Vitamins — hey, why not?

—————————-
and from my husband:

7) Fried Chicken — YUCK!

Did I ever mention that I tried chocolate-covered bacon once.
Yeah, not recommended.

Happy STS!

title pic Fruit2Day, Tomorrow and the Next…

Posted by Mrs Zeee on

Let me start out by saying that this is a totally unsolicited endorsement of what I consider one of the best packaged products to hit the food market in years. It’s called Fruit2Day.

Here’s the scoop — it’s a fruit juice beverage that is 100% all natural and contains whole fruit and pure juice in every serving.

By the way, a LOT of products make the “ALL NATURAL” claim, but this one is the real deal. Don’t believe me? Here is the list of ingredients from a Fruit2Day Banana/Pineapple Blend:

Pineapple juice from concentrate and pieces and puree, orange juice with pulp from concentrate, apple puree, banana puree, acerola cherry juice from concentrate, carrot juice from concentrate, natural flavor.

No weird unpronouncable mystery ingredients included = SCORE!

There are other great flavors to choose from including Strawberry Orange, Mango Peach and Cherry Grape. And did I mention that this counts for 2 of the recommended daily servings of fruit?

(if you have kids, then you get how invaluable that is)

Interested? Grab this coupon for $1 Off: Fruit2Day Coupon and enjoy!

Oh, and don’t forget to come back and tell me what you think…

title pic I Heart Frye Riding Boots 2009

Posted by Mrs Zeee on 09/01/2009

I am all about the Frye riding boots this Fall 2009 despite the fact that I have never in my life come close to riding a horse (unless you count numerous turns on the carnival carousel) and never really plan to, for that matter.

That said, I am having a bit of trouble deciding which of riding boots to buy this year. I love the Frye riding boots but I pulled some other interesting prospects off of shopstyle.com and I plan to take a “ride” over to my own personal mecca, or DSW, as it is known to other folks.

Have you seen a cute pair of riding boots to recommend? Check the styles below and if you know of something similar, please let me know before I spend my dough!

Frye at ShopStyle

The center pair are the Frye Paige Riding Boots and they are SWEET!
I am leaning toward these pretty heavily…
Of course, I’ll keep you posted.

UPDATE: I got the FRYE Boots in a gorgeous weathered gray and they are the most comfortable boots I have ever worn!

title pic MMM: So Long, Summer!

Posted by Mrs Zeee on 08/23/2009

MrsZeee Monday gets a bum rap and I am working to change that by making something positive out of the most dreaded of all days…

To participate, write a post on your blog about what you are doing to Make this Monday Matter for you…Some examples: volunteering, helping a friend move a sofa, donating time or a few dollars to charity, hitting the gym, spending QT with the kids after school, recycling, buying locally grown produce, calling dear Aunt Betty or, for some of you, just rolling out of bed and putting on a clean shirt — congrats!

Whatever it is, make your Monday a positive one and then pat yourself on the back.

Don’t forget to add your info to the Linky and be sure to visit other bloggers on the list to share the love…

Wishing you a wonderful case of the Mondays :)

——————————————————————–

Summer is almost OVER!

No, no, no! I am kicking and screaming my way toward Labor Day this year — I feel like I got robbed of summer this year — we went straight from rainy June/July to a sticky, hot and humid August.

There is so much I have left to do and I am going to try and do the following 2 things this week:

1) Take Miss Smiley on her first trip to our local amusement park (she won’t be able to participate, but she’ll love to watch the excitement.
2) GO TO THE BEACH! I can’t believe I have not been to the beach once this entire summer… so depressing.

What are you doing this Monday?

——————————————————————–

Don’t forget to add your link below and visit a link or two or three to share the love…

I look forward to learning about how you made Monday matter!

See you next week!

title pic Good riddance to summer bugs

Posted by Mrs Zeee on 08/22/2009

Good riddance to summer bugs…

Here are the 6 things about summer that bug me to no end, I am never sorry to see them go come autumn!

1) Humidity. New York has been a total sweat box this summer.

2) Mosquitoes — I am up awake right now stalking a bloodsucker. If I don’t get him before bed, he’ll feast on all of us tonight.

3) The LOUD central air unit outside of my neighbor’s house — I have to adjust the volume on my TV because it is so freakin’ LOUD.

4) Short shorts on all sorts of folks who just shouldn’t be wearing them!

5) Bees — normally they don’t bother me but this year they are especially aggressive.

6) Summer hours — seems like everyone is closed or on hiatus when I need them. Let’s get back to the grind people!!!

Did I miss any?

title pic FF: You’re More Than Welcome…

Posted by Mrs Zeee on 08/21/2009

Have you ever been invited to go somewhere in this manner: “You’re more than welcome to come if you’d like….”

What the heck does “more than welcome” anyway?

I think that is the most callous way to invite someone to a party, dinner, event or even on a walk..
It’s lazy and it doesn’t exactly express that the person really wants you to join them. It’s more like saying, “I feel bad that I haven’t invited you and I don’t really care if you are there or not, but if you really want to come along, then sure, you’re welcome to…”

And the worst part? I find myself doing the very same thing to others. So I guess, in many ways I am frustrated with myself as well.

Not to self – gotta work on that. Maybe I will make it part of my Make Monday Matter resolution when it applies.

Happy Friday!!

title pic Magic Eye Posters

Posted by Mrs Zeee on 08/20/2009

Remember those trippy magic eye posters? It took me so long to figure out the trick to seeing the secret image hidden behind the crazy graphic. And you know what? By the time I finally got the technique mastered, the magic eye trend was sooo over.

Here is one that I found on google images: magiceye.com:

Can you see the hidden image?

title pic I Rediscovered My Local Library

Posted by Mrs Zeee on 08/18/2009

I am happy to annouce to the world that I have rediscovered my local library!

library

library

It took a lot for me to replace the stigma of what the library used to be: clear plastic-covered books that smelled of must and glue, card catalogs neatly arranged for those of us savvy enough to figure out the dewey decimal system, and battered wooden tables and chairs that served us public records of every crushing teenage girl that sat in them: “Tracey loves Greg no Matt no Rick. 4-Ever…”

I haven’t set foot in a library since college and now, a child and a crippling recession later, I wonder how I ever survived this long without it?

Did you know that the library has:

  • Free Internet Access
  • Movie and DVD rentals
  • Classes for Kids, Adults and Seniors
  • Art and Music Exhibitions
  • Poetry Readings and all sorts of performances
  • a Snack Bar
  • Air conditioning
  • Oh, and BOOKS!! Remember those?

And the best part: all it costs is a proof of residence.

Maybe I sound like an idiot, but I am telling you that rediscovering the library is like rediscovering youth — a local destination for the whole family — with slightest hint of must and quiet to make it feel like old times.

Soooo, to butcher Shakespeare’s Hamlet, and I quote “Get thee to the library!”

I promise, you won’t be disappointed.
